DESCRIPTION

Two vanishingly scarce first editions. The 1837 volume is held institutionally in only two UK libraries, and the 1838 volume is not currently held in any.

Bound in full cloth with title plates to the spine. With two pages of the publishers advertisements to the rear of the 1838 volume and a one page advertisement written by the author to the front of the 1837 volume.

Two volumes showcasing a collection of the Public General Statutes passed in the session (7 Will. IV & 1 Vic., and 1 & 2 Victoriae) in 1837 and 1838. These are the laws relating to the Office of a Justice of the Peace and to Parochial Matters in England and Wales. Compiled and with notes by the barrister-at-law, John Tidd Pratt.


CONDITION

In full cloth binding. Externally, very smart with some shelf wear to the edges. Chipping and marks to the title plates. Light marks to the boards. Fraying and closed tears to the lower spine of the 1838 volume. Front hinge strained in the 1837 volume. A few scattered spots to the paste-downs and free endpapers of the 1838 volume. Foxing to the paste-downs and free endpapers of the 1837 volume. Internally, binding slightly creased but still firmly bound. Pages lightly age-toned but otherwise generally bright and clean. The odd spot throughout. Spotting heavier towards the front and rear of the 1837 volume. Ink lines throughout both books, by the previous owner.
