This listing is for a like new, super clean copy of Leonard Bernsteins unparalleled The Remastered Edition 100CD box set- the ultimate Leonard Bernstein listening experience!! This box set is technically still new although I cant remember if the set originally came shrink wrapped, but the contents inside had never seen the light of day until I opened it for photographing for this listing!
I purchased this set brand new a few years ago (from Amazon I believe) and we moved coast to coast a short time afterwards, so this an a great many other box sets were carefully packed and have remained in our climate controlled storage area. We are preparing for another coast-to-coast move at the end ofthe year so I am offering up a lot of my rare/special items to avoid riskinghaving anything damaged during the move.
Will be packed well to prevent damage during shipping!
Please take a look at all of the photos and feel free toask any questions- thanks for looking!
*Due todramatically increased shipping costs to these areas, Alaska, Hawaii and PuertoRico buyers please contact me first before purchasing so I can work somethingout for you for shipping, the shipping price in this listing is for the lower48 only thanks for understanding!
Box Set Description from Sony Classical:
SonyClassical releases the most important collection, Leonard Bernstein's classicAmerican Columbia recordings, remastered from their original 2- and multi-trackanalogue tapes. This has allowed for the creation of a natural balance (forexample, between the orchestra and solo instruments) that brings the quality ofthese half-century-old recordings, excellent for their time, up to thestandards of today's audiophiles. In addition, there has been a meticulousrestoration of some earlier masterings in which LP surface noise was toorigorously eliminated at the expense of the original brilliance.
This is unquestionably the most comprehensive display of the legendary Americanconductor's unparalleled dynamism and versatility ever offered in a singlepackage. Many of Bernstein's most memorable and critically acclaimedinterpretations are brought together here.
Space permits only the mention of highlights, but they will give you a sense ofthe breadth and depth of this astonishing new set. There are his two classiccomplete opera recordings with the Vienna Philharmonic: Verdi's Falstaff (1966)starring Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and Strauss's Rosenkavalier (1971) withChrista Ludwig, Gwyneth Jones, Lucia Popp and Walter Berry. Plus, hisincandescent complete 1966 Haydn Creation from New York. Bernstein's New YorkPhilharmonic recordings that launched the “Mahler Renaissance” in the 1960s arehere, of course, including the 1961 Third Symphony which has arguably neverbeen surpassed. Ditto for Carl Nielsen, whose great works Bernstein brought toa wide new public with interpretations like the 1962 NYP recording of the FifthSymphony, perhaps the most thrilling account of this 20th-century masterpieceever committed to disc. The Sibelius Fifth recording from 1961 is anothercelebrated Bernstein reading. And while we're talking about Fifth Symphonies,Bernstein's Beethoven Fifth from 1961 is still as electrifying now as it wasthen. His talk about the work is also included, one of many treasurablespoken-word commentaries in this set delivered by one of classical music's mostcharismatic and influential lecturers and teachers. Naturally there's Mahler,Nielsen, Sibelius and Beethoven in the new collection, not to mention Bach andVivaldi, Haydn and Mozart, Schubert and Schumann, Berlioz and Liszt, Brahms andBruckner, Dvořák and Smetana, Bizet and Offenbach, Tchaikovsky andRachmaninoff, Saint-Saëns and Poulenc, Grieg and Fauré, Stravinsky andHindemith, Bartók and Berg, Ives and Copland, Prokofiev and Shostakovich, Richardand Johann Strauss – symphonies, overtures, symphonic poems, dances, choral andvocal works as well as countless great concertos with soloists like Isaac Sternand Glenn Gould, not to mention Bernstein himself in Gershwin's Rhapsody inBlue.
