Publication Year:1966 Type:Comic Book Format:Single Issue Issue Number:18 Language:English Era:Silver Age (1956-69) Superhero Team:X-Men Style:Color Features:First Printing Genre:Action, Superheroes Country/Region of Manufacture:United States This issue of X-Men Vol. 1 #18 presents well. It likely falls into the grading spectrum of 6.5- 8.0. It can possibly receive a bump in grading with a cleaning and press. It is a UK Price Variant also known for a long time as a Pence Copy. It is RARE!! and SCARCE!! There are 2 printing types known of this book. The Newsstand, which was the defacto at the time. There was no other outlet for selling newspaper, magazines and comic books at this time in 1966. The other was the UK Price Variant also known for a time as a "Pence Copy". The Pence Copy or the UK Price Variant for a long time were disregarded as not worthy of collecting and adding to collections due to the lack of knowledge at the time. They probably were deemed UnAmerican. But....!!! BIG BUT!, They are actually more American than those copies with the 12 Cent insignia sold at Newsstands around the United States. These Pence Copies, the UK Price Variant was printed before the 12 Cent versions sold at Newsstands around the United liquidation States. The reason was because it took more time to ship to the UK due to crossing of the Atlantic with Ships as the only shipping option rather than Airplane which wasnt widely used as a shipping option and most likely more expensive. The UK Price Variant Pence Copies are also more scarce and rare because a smaller amount were printed print run for an area smaller than the state of New York. That is without mentioning that the smaller print run of the UK Price Variant Pence Copy were supposed to be destroyed after their newsstand rack time exceeded its shelf life. Think daily newspapers, the shelf life or rack time of a daily newspaper is only one day, if not for some silly reason, two, then it is discarded or destroyed and seen as useless. UK Price Variants received the same treatment. Leading to its scarcity and rarity.
