Genuine Vintage At least The 1960s Era
Stewart & Warner Lighted Gauge Package
I am a retired journeyman mechanic and have been saving this for decades, as I planned on building a patina style 57 Chevy street gasser, and do to my age and other circumstances its time to let go of many of my prized possessions. I am also very finicky about my stuff and I was never one for doing inferior work in general. So anytime I would build a hot rod I would always make sure I had my parts ready to install before I began the project.
I know I write a lot, as words are free, and at least you will fully know exactly what you buying ?
And I really enjoyed my trade and I couldnt help myself and decided to do what I do best, so I completely went through this gauge set-up yesterday and fully prepared it for installation for whoever buys it. So I disassembled it, and carefully thoroughly cleaned it without disturbing the factory gauge markings & stampings etc. I polished all the stainless gauge bezels & the chrome 360 degree adjustable light housings. The light sockets look like brand new inside & the bulbs are all in great shape. The original wiring was all cloth style, but do to the large amounts of fraying, I decided to rewire it and make even better than before. So, unlike most people who use the quick crimping tool crappy method, I never crimp any of my wiring jobs, as everything is always soldered, along with shrink tubing for the ultimate connection, and my wires are always cut to there correct lengths resulting in a professional job. (see pics - the 4th pic is in complete darkness) Also for these gauge lights I made it have a double ground, were you will have a ground if its bolts up to a grounded metal chassis and you will see in the pics the eyelet is attached to one of the mounting screws & if you dont have a good mounting ground the other ground wire is with the red positive wire for you to connect.
I bench tested the vacuum gauge with my gauged vacuum hand pump and it tested perfect and identical to my hand pump gauge. I simply tested the pressure gauge with air pressure and it works great. The pressure gauge can be used for either oil or fuel pressure depending on your needs. I tested the Amp meter with a quick 12v battery tapping method in both directions and I also did a Ohms test and it zeroed out completely. Meaning it bench tested perfectly.
The bracket itself is very cool as you can clearly see the circled machine decorative pattern finish, was manually hand done way back in the day maybe on a Bridgeport ? and Pontiac many years later used this same style pattern on there Trans Am dash, which I believe was a aluminum sticker of some sort. Look at at all of my pictures carefully, as this obviously exhibits patina as it should being so old, it does have minor scratches here and there, but just honest old age wear, but it screams nothing but cool in my opinion. I looked this over very well, because I am all about my buyers being happy with there purchases, and on the edge where the bend is, where you bolt it up, it looks like it has some very fine cracks on the bent edge across it, but trust me its really not & its not really even noticeable & not something fresh either. As I first tried using my hand to see if it had a weak spot & I could clearly feel its absolutely super solid, well after further examination I can definitively guarantee its definitely a outer skin stress type from when it was made in the sheet metal brake. So really truly it is just from the sharp bending process, and you will understand when you get it.
I believe whoever buys this 1of a kind gauge set-up is going to be thrilled, if they are looking for something like this for there hot rod, muscle machine......
