Richard Burton was a British explorer who was well known for his travels in Asia, Africa, and America. He translated an edition of One Thousand and One Nights, and published Kama Sutra in English. He was critical of the colonial policies of the British Empire, and was also a captain in the army of the East India Company. His life and adventures were frequently written about in the penny dreadfuls of the time.

CONDITION
In the publishers original cloth binding. Externally, fading and light staining to the cloth, particularly to the extremities. Darkening to the spine, and bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities. Containing a few small contemporary ink inscriptions to the front free-endpaper and verso of the front free-endpaper, dated 1900. Internally, binding is lightly strained. Light spotting to the first and last few pages, and a few spots throughout, otherwise pages are generally clean.
