What is Komon Kimono?
Komon” refers to a kimono in which the pattern is repeatedly pattern-dyed in one direction. Unlike formal kimonos such as Houmongi kimono, in which the pattern is connected across the seams, komon are dyed with the same pattern repeatedly without connecting the patterns. The pattern may be large or small, but it is large enough to be recognized at a glance. It is worn for casual outings or, depending on the pattern, for slightly fashionable occasions such as concerts. It is usually worn with a Nagoya obi or a more fashionable fukuro obi.
